Late Summer 2012 Newsletter

Macbook, camera, and iPhone on desk

First of all, I want to thank you all for faithfully praying for us here in Nigeria. We do see the evidence of those fervent prayers on our behalf. Adoniram Judson Gordon, a Baptist preacher  from the 1800’s once quoted “You can do more than pray after you have prayed; but you can never do more than pray until you have prayed”. This is so true especially in our world of missions today. So much can be done for the missionary, but prayer should be held in the highest regard above anything else. Praise the Lord!

Pastor Chad Prigge and the members of Fairmont Baptist Church Fairmont, MN, gave a monetary gift, ( new/used clothing, and some toys to 15 of our Nigerian Pastors. We thank the Lord that the boxes of these items finally made it to Nigeria this summer. We were able to distribute the bags of clothing and toys to each of the families and with gladness of heart and great appreciation, they came and picked up the items. They were  overwhelmed with the show of love by this church in the States.

I’ve had great opportunities to travel this year to preach in several churches in different cities. One church in particular is a church that we helped establish last year. Grace Alone Baptist Church was celebrating their one-year Anniversary September 9, 2012, in Idanre village. On a normal Sunday, they average 26 in attendance, but on the Anniversary Sunday, they saw more than 100 attend with forty professing salvation in Jesus Christ after the service. Also after the service, we were all invited to drive to their new location where construction has begun for their new church building. Think about it! If it were not for Grace Alone Baptist church and their pastor (Pastor Adewale Adebayo), these people may not have a Bible-believing church in their town. Please continue to be praying for several of our young pastors who have left it all to start an Independent Baptist church in villages like this pastor and his family has done. Please pray that God will provide a piano keyboard for them for their services.

I am very excited to get opportunities to preach the gospel in our Nigerian Universities. I’ve had 8 opportunities so far this year to preach at university fellowships. To  God be the glory, we have seen 107 young students profess salvation in Jesus. The majority of the students  in our schools (in all levels) believe very strongly in working their way to Heaven. No wonder as a result of that, they also strongly feel they can also lose their Salvation. I thank God that “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus”……Romans 8:1 In all, we have seen 370 profess salvation in Jesus Christ so far this year! Praise be to God!

In closing, the kids have started another school year with Vanessa teaching  5 of the 6 children again this year. With the kids feeling “bored” at times, school and homework were welcomed enthusiastically. Vanessa has also had opportunities to teach in Ladies Conferences here which she enjoys greatly. With her involved with teaching the kids at home and with us traveling, it could get very stressful at times. So please pray for strength for her and the kids this school year.

I want to express our gratitude to those who support us through prayer, financial support, and at times sending an email or letter to encourage us to keep on going. Our words cannot express how we feel deep in our hearts for people and churches like yours who faithfully support us here in Nigeria. We definitely cannot do what we do without the support we get from you. Our Lord will reward you greatly ON THAT DAY! (Colossians 3:24).
